Daily hukanama


A Hukamnama also refers to a hymn, it’s literally means “Royal Order”. This is randomly selected from the Guru Granth Sahib on a daily basis. Hukamnama is a compound word, Hukam + namah. Hukam means Order and namah means statement.This is the order of God for that particular day. It is also called Mukhwak or Gurmatta.


To other religions person the Guru Granth Sahib Ji may seem just a book, but to a Sikh the Guru Granth Sahib Ji is is their living, breathing, talking spiritual guide or Guru.


An Ardaas offered before taking a Hukamnama. Mukhwak is taken in each Gurudwara daily when Guru Granth Sahib Ji is opened in the morning. When Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji opening , at the top left corner of the opening angs (page) will be the Hukamnama( Mukhwak katha or Gurmatta).
